Rajouri, Dec 17: The people in Rajouri are left dumbfound as the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CAPD) department has provided 700 grams of Sugar per head (233 grams per month per head) for the last three months to the people of Rajouri district. Locals in Rajouri town are who were alleged for the last few months that government ration supply is missing far away from reach of people as not only Sugar is missing from the CAPD outlets /private dealers but the population in far off areas in the district also failed to get the ration at the same time. Following the complaints the CAPD Ministers recently had held the meeting of all the officers of the department from Jammu Province and reviewed the stock and supply position of the department. According to locals CAPD minister reportedly issued strict instructions to the Assistant Directors (ADs) to distribute ration before 18th of every month and Sugar before 24th of every month. He also had assured the people of the State that they will get Sugar for two months before December 24. Complaining the inadequate ration supply, some of rationees said, "After three months today we got 700 gms of Sugar for per head that too for one month." "We have not received Atta till today however, the Rice were available today at our ration depot No 2 situated in ward No 9" said one Naresh Kumar who rushed to get Sugar after getting information. Irregular supply of Ration/Sugar to CA&PD outlets and to private dealers is not only noticed in far off areas but also to the dealers in various wards of Rajouri town. Inhabitants of various tehsils have been complaining of acute shortage of ration and have been holding protest demonstrations against alleged failure of the department to provide ration / Sugar in time and in regular manner. In the recent past similar protests were held in Darhal, Kotranka, Budhal, Nagrota, Thannamandi, Manjakote and other areas alleging non-supply of ration. Despite several apprehensions of loosing quota of ration under National Food Security Act (NFSA) - at present 35 kgs ration per family @ 5 kgs per member people have been approaching to get them registered under NFSA so that their ration cards may not be dropped. |
