3,000 students from J&K face uncertain future under PMSSS, AICURD | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 17: Alleging that Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has changed the criteria of eligibility of colleges at the last moment, chairperson of the All India Centre for Urban and Rural Development (AICURD, J&K) said this has badly affected 3,000 underprivileged students from Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement issued today Rabia Baji chairperson of AICURD, NGO said more than 3,000 underprivileged students from Jammu and Kashmir face uncertain future under the Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) as the MHRD has suddenly changed the criteria of the eligibility of the colleges. She alleged that students were to get scholarship for professional and general course for 2014-2015 session across India in various institutions after being on the eligible list. However, some of them now find themselves declared un-eligible in the new list because of frequent change in the scheme. As the students have taken admission just to save their academic session which was foiled by the floods in the state many students have been dropped from the list. She claimed that she called on director of MHRD yesterday and urged not to change norms at this point of time as it would spoil the career of boys and girls. The scheme was launched in 2010 as the Confidence Building Measure (CBM) for the state to save the future of the students. She wanted to know why the name of some of the students was dropped in the new list when their name was in the first list. However, she quoted MHRD saying that list of students availing the scholarship was being prepared by the state government and it has nothing to do with it. She appealed to the state and central governments to review the list and include the students who were originally selected but later dropped for unknown reasons. |
