Jammu, Dec 17 : Rejecting local body polls without implementation of 73rd and 74th amendments of Indian constitution in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, .
All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference has said that without constitutional powers such elections are mere a joke and this is just an attempt to get the central funds related to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayats . Addressing media persons, Panchayat Conference leaders accused the Bhartiya Janta Party of deceiving the people in the name of nationalism but they have taken complete U-turn after grabbing the power at state and central level .
Panchayat Conference leaders said that when BJP was out of power it would always raise the issues like 73rd and 74th amendments and their implementation in the state but since they came to power they have forgotten all these slogans.
"It is the testing time for BJP to prove that whether it can implement these constitutional amehdments in the state or not.
If it fails to do so, BJP has no right to do politics on such issues. Now the time has come to show your nationalism, he added and said an apex body of elected Sarpanches of the state. Holding BJP directly responsible for this drama, if BJP can bargain on power sharing and ministerial berths why can't they do same for public interest issues.
He also asked the people who are preparing to contest urban local body polls to press for the implementation of 74th amendment be implemented in the state before municipal polls.
