50% secondary schools sans lab facilities | | | Bijay Charak

Jammu, Dec 19: It's the wakeup call for state government to improve secondary school infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir as more than 50 percent secondary schools run without laboratory facilities. Sources informed Early Times that the whole state has a total of 4198 secondary schools, of which a good number lack building infrastructure, besides basic facilities like laboratories of various subjects are also missing. They further said that Physics, Chemistry laboratory facilities in state are available in 1806 schools which is less than 50 percent of total schools. Similar, Biology laboratory facilities are available in 1680 schools rest of other school are still running without the much needed facilities. The figure of computer laboratory facilities in state are not good only 1600 schools have computer laboratory. "It was very interesting that out of 4198 secondary schools only 210 schools have Geography laboratories", sources said, adding that though such school is facing acute shortage of lecturers, masters and teachers, but it was very surprising that the laboratory facilities in secondary school of state has less than 50 percent but it was very astounding that only 29 percent schools having laboratory Assistant staff rest of other schools without lab Assistant. "Most of Secondary schools still lack chairs and desks. Students especially have been facing a lot of problems as the laboratory lacks equipment and there is no laboratory assistant available", sources concluded. Repeated calls by Early Times to Commissioner Secretary School Education department Shaleen Kabra went in vain. |
