Mughal Road reopens for traffic | | | Rajouri, Dec 19: Traffic resumed on Friday (December 18) on the historic Mughal Road, one week after it was closed due to persistent snowfall in J&K. The Mughal Road connects Shopian in South Kashmir with the districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region, and is a crucial link as it offers the shortest route to Kashmir. It is also an important route for trade and commerce activities in the state. Tourists were happy after the arterial road was reopened. "I was staying in Shopian from past three days. I did not know the roads were closed. Today I got to know that roads have re-opened. I came here for sight-seeing with my friends. It was really good," said Ahmed, a tourist. Residents of Kashmir felt relieved on Friday after the road was made operational for vehicular traffic. "Today, the traffic is moving smoothly from both sides. It has become really easy now and is a good thing," said a resident. The Mughal Road was once used by Mughal emperors to capture the Kashmir Valley and to travel and spend time in the region. |
