Govt 'handpicks' 2 IPS officers, likely to reward them with plum postings | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 19: The Government is learnt to have 'handpicked' two IPS officers of its choice to post one of them in the capital city of Jammu as SP and the other as the head of a district in Kashmir, rejecting dozens who were making rounds of the residences of BJP Ministers with the hope that they would reward them with "plum" postings. The Government has already made up its mind in this regard. In case there was no consensus in the Cabinet on their postings, the Home Department was likely to issue their orders of posting. Both the SPs have served as SDPOs in different Jammu areas and are attached with the district police lines (DPL) for the past nearly one year, according to police sources. The other SPs, who hoped to get posted in Jammu with the support of politicians, were likely to be given insignificant postings. One of them included a SP, who at present was posted in Udhampur district. While a few at PHQ were in favour of bringing him to Jammu, some BJP Ministers were opposed to this move, sources said. Sources said since two posts of DSPs had also fallen vacant with the promotion of SDPOs of Akhnoor and Jammu city to the next rank of SPs, a race had also started among some DSPs to occupy the SDPOs' posts in these two areas. Some of them had even put forward their cases for postings in Jammu east and R S Pura. The transfers and postings of DSPs were also on the cards in the days to come, the sources added, saying a DSP, who was at present posted in Jammu, had already started using his political connections for a posting at R S Pura. Similarly, another DSP was trying for his transfer from Samba to Jammu East. Two DSPs posted in Kathua, one in the city and the other in a border area, were also said to be trying for a posting in Jammu, sources said. |
