Govt likely to shelve NFSA implementation | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Government is likely to delay the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) which was slated to be implemented from February next year. Top sources in the Government revealed to Early Times that apart from the major political controversy which erupted after the Government's announcement over NFSA, the incorrect information of the consumers in the Jammu and Kashmir available with the CAPD is compelling the Government to delay the process further. Sources said that the Government would amend the Act further and would delay its implementation at present as far it could to avoid any trouble. Also, due to the wrong information collected by the CAPD in the past would act as a major impediment in the implementation of the Act in Jammu and Kashmir state. Reports informed that the people have been issued forms for enrollment which are not only riddled with inaccuracies, but even the income of the families has not been registered properly in the records of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department. Despite the fact that the state Government has made it compulsory that the income certificates will be issued by the Tehsildars before the subsidized ration would be released to people, the complaints are mounting that the enrollment forms give wrong information about family incomes. Blazingly, the gender of the people has been registered incorrectly, raising several eye brows about the credibility NFSA in the state. Besides that, there is chaos that could be witnessed all around about the usage of Aadhar card in the new system. There are reports that during the implementation of the new food Act in the state, the Aadhar cards will Act as the main point between the ration depots and the consumers. The Government is yet to clarify how the card would store the information about the ration details of the consumers. Further, there is no initiative taken by the Government for the installation of the card reading machines at the ration depots for the purpose. Such a situation is also hinting at Government's plan to delay the process further. Sources said the process is being hit by the several road blocks and there has been no decision to implement NFSA in JK within two coming months. The pre-emptive measures that were ought to be taken much earlier before the implementation of NFSA in the state is far from being even examined. "At first there is a dire need to rectify the wrongs in the information collected by the CAPD in the past. Second in the process through which the new Food Act will be implemented. It will take atleast one more year to make the ground fertile for the implementation of NFSA that too when the Government pursues the matter rigorously," said an official while pleading for anonymity. |
