Nothing to sell, BJP leaders take credit for FSA | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 19: BJP leaders of the state these days are busy in making claim over the imposition of an Act that according to them would go a long way in providing food grains to people at subsidized rates. This is despite the fact that party has no role in the implementation of this Act. In order to improve its image in the state the BJP leaders are trying to score brownie points and for the same they are walking an extra mile. BJP leaders of Jammu & Kashmir have been claiming that it is the BJP Government at the Centre that has implemented National Food Security Act across the length and breadth of country including the state. The BJP leaders are either 'ignorant' or are trying to be 'ignorant' over the implementation of this Act in the country. The National Food Security Act was the brain child of previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the centre led by Congress. The UPA Government better known as UPA-II implemented the Act in the country in 2013. The people at helm at that time had said that the Act is revolutionary and it would provide the ration items to the common masses at subsidized rates. Although, the Act was implemented in most of the states, but some of the states including Jammu & Kashmir did not implement the same. However, the present dispensation of Peoples Democratic Party and BJP in state took up the matter seriously. Directions were issued to Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CA&PD) department to expedite implementation of Food Security Act in the state. It seems that BJP Ministers in Jammu & Kashmir have nothing to 'sell' and as such they are making claims about things that they have never done. The points on which the BJP fought 2014 assembly elections are yet to be realized. The people of Jammu region in general are not happy with the performance of BJP and they believe that party members have given up their demands for the 'lust' of power. Delay in proper rehabilitation of West Pakistani refugees has not gone well with the people of winter capital. The common masses opine that this humanitarian issue has been put in backburner by BJP despite it being one of the important components of their pre-poll promises. Failure to rehabilitate the people affected by shelling from across the border is yet another issue that has not gone well with the people of Jammu region. Given the fact that BJP has failed to come up to the expectations of people of winter capital it is quite but natural that party leaders are making 'false' claims. Since the polls for urban local bodies and panchayats are few months away the BJP wants to prove before people that they have done 'wonders' while being in power. Making claims that National Food Security Act has been implemented by BJP is one of the few brownie points being scored by Jammu & Kashmir unit of the party. |
