Jammu, Dec 19 : Alexander Memorial School today celebrated the 'Annual Sports Day' here at school premises. According to press release, Member of Legislative Assembly Rajesh Gupta was the "Chief Guest" and Jahangir Mir, Director General Youth Services and Sports was the guest of honour. Principal of school, Esther William, received the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour and other distinguished guests. The traditional bouquet presentation and lighting of the lamp was followed by a short prayer by Rev. Udai Singh, Presbyter-in-Charge St. Paul's Church, Jammu. The Chief Guest declared the Annual Sports Meet open, and it was followed by the 'Torch Run' and the flame kept on burning throughout the function. The display of 'Dumb Bells' and 'Mass PT' was followed by Academic Awards. The `Track and Filed' events comprising sprints and long distance races for boys and girls of different age groups included Sack Race, Three-Legged Race, 100 Mtr, 200 Mtrs and 400 Mtrs Races. The spectators encouraged the participants with lusty cheers and the whole campus, decorated tastefully, resounded the cheers. The first three position holders in each athletic event were awarded medals and certificates of merit by Chief Guest. Trophics to the Houses for Football, Cricket and Kho-Kho and several individual prizes, medals and certificates of merit were given away by the Chief Guest to those who had excelled in various co-curricular and social activities. The 'Grand Finale' was a patriotic song and a Christmas Carol. The whole programme was compered by S.K. Munshi, Co-ordinator, AMS and the vote of thanks was presented by T. N. Kaul, Sr. Master, AMS. The programme ended with the singing of the National Anthem followed by light refreshment to all the esteemed guests. |
