NSF criticizes JU authorities, demands enquiry | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 10: National Secular Forum (NSF) today criticized Jammu University authority for paying Rs.10 crore and 5 lakh on account of electricity and mobile/landline expenditure during the last five financial years. According to press release, NSF senior Vice-President Surjit Choudhary disclosed the data related to the expenditure made by University during the last five years. He revealed that amount close to Rs 9.53 crore have been spent on electricity excluding the expenditure incurred by the University to run the high power diesel generator sets. The bill amount was Rs 1.68 crore for financial year 2010-11, Rs 1.90 crore for 2011-12, Rs 1.81 crore for 2012-13, Rs 2.49 crore for 2013-14 and Rs 1.66 crore for 2014-15. Similarly, University spent nearly Rs 53 lakh on account of Landline/ Mobile expenditure. The amount remained at Rs 13 lakh for the financial year 2010-11, Rs 12 lakh for 2011-12, Rs 9 lakh for 2012-13, Rs 10.5 lakh for 2013-14 and Rs 9 lakh for 2014-15. Interestingly, University used a sum of Rs 1 crore out of the Infrastructure Fund to pay the electricity bill for the year 2013-14. Lamenting the University authorities for spending huge sum of money on electricity and telephone bills, Choudhary said least of money is being spent on promoting academics and research work in the University while more stress is laid on ensuring comfort to the teachers and officers at the expense of students' welfare. Choudhary urged the Chancellor (Governor N N Vohra) to look into the matter and fix a ceiling on the expenditures so that University authorities won't be able to plunder the University exchequer at their will.
