Infiltration attempts declined, youth joining militancy increased in 2015 | | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 10: The constant vigil online of control and international border by security forces has resulted in decrease in infiltration attempts from across the border but within the state a disturbing trend has come to fore as youth joining militancy has recorded increase. As per the latest data of Home Ministry, the cross border infiltration attempts have decreased in state during 2015 as compared to corresponding period of 2014 but youth joining militancy in the same period recorded increase. A total of 180 infiltration attempts were recorded till September 2014 but in the corresponding period of 2015 the infiltration attempt were contained to 92 till September 2015. In the same period as per the reports, 79 youths have joined militant ranks during 2015 (as onNovember 30) whereas 60 youths joined militant ranks during the corresponding period of 2014, causing shivers among security circles. Moreover, in the militancy related incidents in the same period the number of terrorists killed recorded increase as 30 terrorists were killed till November 2014 but in year 2015 a total of 37 terrorists were killed by security forces. The security forces were succeeded to push back large number of terrorists in 2014 and less in 2015. A total of 96 terrorists were returned back till November 2014 but only 38 were returned back by security forces in 2015. The data further revealed that incident of terrorist violence also saw a decrease as 215 incidents of terrorist violence were reported in 2014 but in 2015 a total of 200 incidents of terrorist violence were reported from Jammu and Kashmir. A total of 28 civilians were killed in 2014 and in 2015 a total of 16 civilians were killed besides 47 security forces had laid down their lives in 2014 while in 2015 a total of 39 security forces were killed in terrorist violence. Sources said that the state government has regularly been monitoring and reviewed the developments. The government has adopted various counter measures to neutralise these efforts and capabilities of militants to disturb peace in the State. The Government has also encouraged policies to mainstream the youth, including providing employment opportunities to wean them away from militancy. |
