'Chamcha' Govt officials poke nose | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 10: Even as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership, mourning the demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, was yet to finalize the conditions for future of alliance with Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), for the last four days some "Chamcha" officials from the State Government have been unduly poking their nose into the "sensitive political issue" of new government formation. Sources said at the Fairview residence of Mehbooba Mufti here, some of the government officials, including top and middle-rung, have been trying to step into the shoes of PDP leadership by giving uninvited advises on the government formation and leaking "manipulated news" to some media persons of choice only to meet their personal interests. Infact such officials have been trying to spend their entire days at the Fairview residence only to keep an eye on the developments. "These officials keep ear on all the political chitchat between the PDP leaders and try to put forth their own viewpoint, which is highly intolerable," said a PDP leader, adding most such "Chamchas sell the developments of the day to external quarters to meet personal interests." Citing a Kashmiri proverb, he said these officials were trying to be "Harfas Gawah Ti Mandis Shareek(witness to every word and shareholder to every morsel of rice)." Interestingly such officials were supposed to be on duty in Jammu with darbar move but happen to be in Srinagar to meet their personal motives in the guise of being mourners. Some PDP leaders said it was the undue interference of these government officials, which in the past led to infighting within the party ranks. "The basic aim of such so called loyalist officials is their personal interests, which is promotion and corruption, to meet which they go to any extent," the leaders said. "These officials don't even mind to inquire from those serving tea to mourners to know if they have missed anything about the PDP plans. They are working like spies who keep eye on each and every development to share it with their masters to have been giving them plum postings," the PDP leaders said. Sources said some of the senior leaders of the PDP have taken a strong note of the undue "interference into party matter by these officials, who are actually doing this all to keep their chairs intact in the new government." Insiders said it was such government officials, who on January 7, when Mufti's mortal remains were yet to be buried, planted fake news into section of media that PDP President Mehbooba Mufti would take oath by evening of the same day. "Basically finding these officials stationed at the Fairview, many media persons take them as authentic for news, which is actually far from reality," the sources said. Senior PDP leaders believe that such officials are doing this all on the instructions of their masters, the ministers of the previous cabinet led by Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, who find their future bleak in the new government to be led by Mehbooba Mufti. "Such officials are black-sheep. The partly leadership needs to realize that these vested interests are to be cut to their size," said a PDP leader. He said the matter would be picked up with PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in due course of time. "PDP is at a very crucial juncture, we won't let it go into the hands of vested interests because our party unity has already suffered a lot because of such black sheep," the PDP leader said. |
