The doctor, according to the sources, enjoyed the political patronage and during his tenure as HOD he purchased equipments and instruments worth lakhs of rupees. Highly placed sources told Early Times the accused doctor ostensibly hatched a well planned conspiracy to dent the state ex-chequer. "At the time of creation of separate department for Urology at Super Specialty Hospital Jammu the blue-eyed doctor was appointed as Head of the Department as of Urology due to theashirwad of his political bosses." "Soon after the said doctor assumed the charge he purchased a number of equipments and instruments," sources said. "Most of the instruments which have been shown as purchased have remained confined to papers only and are not visible physically." "The doctor was first made the head of Urology department and after a few months, Dr Sunil Gupta was also given the post of HOD Surgery. For several months he headed both departments," sources said. They said, "On one fine morning Dr Gupta decided that he would not head the Urology department and called it quits rendering the department headless." Sources said that due to his political influence he continues to head the Surgery department. "Soon after the PDP-BJP government was formed it was expected that new government would look into the discrepancies and the embezzlements which had taken place during the previous regime. Unfortunately, despite change of guard no probe was ordered." "Laser Prostate, machine to conduct Laser Prostate procedure is gathering dust, since the day it was installed. Although prostate machine installed at Super Specialty Hospital Jammu is worth Rs 1 crore, but till date it has not been used in the absence of expert to operate it. Two important equipment of Prostate are not traceable. Morcellator worth Rs 75 Lakhs and Laser working elements worth Rs 2.5 lakhs are reportedly missing", the sources claimed, adding that the much ambitious SSH Jammu has proved to be a damp squib. They said that to expose the embezzlement and to know what happened to the instruments government should order a proper audit. |
