Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 10: The influential continue to walk away with bounties in the neglected land as the lesser mortals get peanuts and at times brickbats.
The Sidhra Golf Course has become a centre of `modern apartheid' with the non-gazetted members who are mostly businessmen being denied the right to share the parking place with the VIP members despite paying four times the amount that they (VIPs) pay as membership fee.
The authorities have classified its members into two categories-Gazetted and Non Gazetted thus violating the right to equality enshrined in the Indian constitution.
The Golf Course has 570 members, of which a few get VIP treatment while others feel neglected.
The lesser mortals (read businessmen) are supposed to park their vehicles at a distance from the administrative block which causes inconvenience to them.
However, the vehicles owned by the VIP members including politicians and bureaucrats can be seen standing under the porch of administrative block", said a Jammu based business-man who got membership in month of October last year.
He alleged that despite paying huge amount to get membership of this institution, they are still deprived of facilities enjoyed by the VIP members.
Strangely enough the VIP members have deposited just one lakh as membership fee while as the businessmen (non-gazetted members) have paid Rs five lakhs. Notwithstanding this disparity, they are denied facilities.
"There is no pre-defined guideline, which permits the authority to drop VIPs under the porch of administrative block, said an agitated non-gazetted member.
The Secretary of the Golf Course, Colonel BBS Bali said that the administration had not done any discrimination with any player. According to him, they are being treated equally without any difference.
