Early Times Report
Mendhar, Jan 10: Notwithstanding the tall government claims of upgraded health infrastructure in the state, SDH, Mendhar, is short of doctors and paramedical staff. The hospital also does not have a gynaecologist and surgeon specialist for the last three years. Sources said against the sanctioned strength of 30 doctors, the SDH had only eight. Also, only a few paramedics were there against the sanctioned strength of 97, the sources added. "There has been no gynaecologist and a surgeon specialist in the hospital for the last three years. Though the hospital is 30-bedded and caters to the needs of over 2 lakh souls, its two ambulances are non-functional," sources said. Also, out of the eight residential quarters of the hospital, two were not in a good condition while as the remaining had not repaired since long, sources alleged, adding that no residential quarters had so far been constructed for the non-gazetted staff. "The SDH even sans digital X-ray machine and ventilators. There is no building for blood storage bank. The compound wall of the hospital is also nowhere in sight resulting in frequent trespassing by the public," sources said and added there was no fair price medical shop in the Mendhar town. The condition of PHCs was also not good. Tanzeen Kazmi, a social worker, said, "The SDH needs to be upgraded as it lacks the basic facilities. The staff shortage is also a cause of concern. The government must wake from its slumber and pay heed towards the problems of the people of this area." When contacted, Block Medical Officer, Mendhar, Dr Zulfkar said that he had brought the matter to the notice of higher authorities time and again, but nothing concrete had been done so far. |
