Gulmarg feezes at minus 10.3 degree, Kargil coldest at minus 14 | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 10: Weather in the Kashmir Valley remained dry resulting in drop in the minimum temperature providing respite to the people from cold conditions during the day. However, Kargil with minus 14 degree in the Ladakh region was coldest in the region closely followed by Leh at minus 13.5 degrees Celsius. A MeT department spokesman said here this afternoon that weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours. There would be no change until January 13 when isolated rain is expected in the valley, he added. After witnessing drop in the minimum temperature which was still above normal, people woke up to a dry morning in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar. However, sky was partially cloudy and icy cold winds also continued. Because of open sky after fresh snowfall, the minimum temperature witnessed a drop of two degree at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg. Against yesterdays, minus 8.3 degree, the minimum temperature dropped and settled at minus 10.3 degree, more than three notches below normal. Water bodies and snow on the slopes remained frozen. There was also considerable drop in the night temperature at Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine, after fresh snowfall early morning yesterday. Against yesterdays, minus 0.3 degree, it was minus 7.1 degree, which is near normal during this time of the season. Srinagar, the summer capital, also recorded a degree drop in the minimum temperature though day temperature remained above normal. Against yesterdays 2.7 degree, it was 1.7 degree, still about three notches above normal. He said the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 10 degree and minus 1 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in the city. |
