Reduce tenure of troops on LOC & IB to check espionage
1/10/2016 11:37:34 PM
Since Pakistani forces, deployed on the International Border from Jammu to Punjab, adopt dubious way for luring the BSF for helping the arms and narcotics smugglers and terrorists there is need for India in general and the Union Home Ministry in particular to keep on changing the columns of the forces after every three to six months. This is required to prevent the BSF and the Army from developing vested interest in case they are lured by Pakistani arms smugglers and other handlers of terrorists. That a few BSF soldiers play the mischief which allowed arms smugglers to smuggle weapons and narcotics into the Indian territory became evident with the arrest of one BSF jawan. Reports have revealed that one Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was on Friday arrested for helping arms and drugs smugglers infiltrate into Punjab from the Pakistan side of the border. The arrested jawan Anil Kumar, who belonged to the 52nd battalion of the security force, admitted that he received multiple tranches of money from the smugglers. Anil was paid up to Rs 50,000 each time by Lahore-based smuggler Imtiaz who told him that they would help him become rich like other colleagues who had been able to buy big houses for themselves.
Anil's Pakistani handler had also given him a Pakistani SIM card to keep in touch. It was Imtiaz who put Anil in touch with a group of smugglers led by a native of Tarn Taran in Punjab -- Gurjant Singh aka Bholu. Gurjant Singh had been arrested in 2010 while smuggling 26 kilos of heroin into India. However, in 2013 he was able to run away from custody while he was being taken to the Ferozpur government hospital for a routine medical examination. This incident is simply a tip of the iceberg because there have been number of cases in which soldiers and BSF jawans have fallen prey to the machinations of the Pakistani arms smugglers and handlers of terrorists.Reports do indicate that if a BSF jawan can help smugglers to smuggle narcotics and weapons into India why cannot be there any nexus between the handlers of terrorists and the Indian border guards ? Even Pakistani political leaders and activists have urged India to set its house in order before blaming Pakistani forces for pushing groups of terrorists into the Indian territory in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir for triggering violence.A month ago in a major development, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police busted an espionage racket supported by Pakistan's Intelligence agency ISI and detained a suspected handler of this organisation and a serving personnel of Border Security Force(BSF).
The serving head constable of the BSF has been arrested for being the main source for Pakistan Intelligence Operative (PIO) for procuring secret/confidential information detrimental for security of the country. Both of them - BSF head constable and the Pakistan Intelligence Operative - have been arrested under the provisions of the Official Secret Act.The accused duo have been identified as Kafaitullah Khan alias Master Raja (44), a resident of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, and BSF head constable Abdul Rasheed, posted at the intelligence wing of Border Security Force in the same district. These are some of the instances indicating that the ISI and other Pakistani smugglers and handlers of terrorists have been quite active in luring Indian security personnel deployed on the border who for the same of earning fortune help terrorists to sneak into the Indian territory. This is what has happened recently when groups of terrorists sneaked into Pathankot and targeted the airbase. Official reports have revealed that the border fence had not been snapped. If it had not been snapped how could these terrorists enter into the Indian territory unless they had received some assistance from the Indian border guards.Yes, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal, who had met the Union Home Minister,Rajnath Singh, suggested that additional companies of the BSF be deployed on the IB in Punjab so that the entire border management was upgraded. But he should have also demand that the tenure of each company of the BSF and the Army, deployed on the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir, and on the IB in Jammu and Punjab be reduced which could leave no time for the Indian border guards to develop vested and personal interest.
