JAMMU, Jan 14: An awareness camp was organized by Agriculture Department at Panchayats Ranjan and Jundiai to create awareness among the farmers about Yellow rust of wheat ( Puccinia stirformis ) , serious disease of wheat occurring in most wheat growing areas with cool and moist weather conditions during the growing season .
Agriculture officers of the area asked the farmers to regularly check their fields and take precautionary measures to control the spread of the disease by spraying Tubaconzole at the rate of 1ml/litre, The farmers were further told about the symptoms of the disease so that it can be controlled at early stage without causing damage to other fields as it profusely spreads through wind. The farmers fields at various locations were inspected by the officials and no symptoms of this disease were found. The camp was organised on the directions of Dr S S Jamwal Director Agriculture, R L Bhagat under the supervision of B K Koul AEO, Bhalwal.
