'If Agenda of Alliance pleads cause of Kashmir, what about Jammu?' | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 14: Breaking his weeklong silence, PDP leader Naeem Akhter spoke to media only to stir up the hornet's nest in the political circles over new government formation. In an interview to a New Delhi-based news channel, Akhter said central government should implement "Agenda of Alliance" before formation of the new government. Akhter has made the PDP point public at the time speculations were being as to what would be decision of the two parties over the formation of the new government in the wake of death of former Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who died on January 7. Till now the PDP had not come up with any word of bargain with the BJP, while the latter had been saying it was willing to continue with the alliance. BJP leader Ram Madhav recently said his party was willing for alliance but that PDP should take an initiative. Naeem's statement hints that the PDP is not satisfied with the implementation of the "Agenda of Alliance" and wants the BJP to take more tangible steps to "win the hearts of people of Kashmir." As stalemate continues in J&K over government formation, the PDP says it would "review the progress made on Mufti sahab's vision" before taking a call on the issue. "Mufti Sahab had a vision to ensure lasting peace for Jammu and Kashmir which is a political issue and his vision was supported by the largest national party (BJP)…The party under the leadership of Mehboobaji will need to review how much we have succeeded to fulfill his vision so far," PDP's senior leader, Naeem Akhtar, reportedly said. Akhter's statement counters the statement issued by his colleague Mehboob Beg that Mehbooba would assume charge as Chief Minister after January 13 when the 7-day state mourning ends. The development follows as grieving Mehbooba continued to maintain silence over government formation after her father's death, though BJP offered an olive branch. But while PDP is pleading the "Agenda of Alliance" for the people of Kashmir, the BJP has miserably failed to highlight the aspirations of the people of Jammu. "The tragedy of the agenda of alliance is that it has been Kashmir centric whereas Jammu has been almost ignored," said a politician from Jammu region. "'If agenda of alliance pleads cause of Kashmir, what about Jammu?" he asked. Amid this new bargain over implementation of "Agenda of Alliance", where do aspirations of the people of Jammu stand? This only the time will decide. |
