Jammu, Jan 14: In what could be termed as the negligence and incompetence of higher authorities of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), despite lapse of a decade, Seri - Chattra six kilometres long road project is still not complete.
Ashwani Praihar, a local resident told Early Times that the project was sanctioned by union government in the year 2005-06 and construction work was started in same year but the earthwork of the project is still in progress.
"The executing agency Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) which aims at providing road connectivity to the inhabitants of the far flung areas has not been able to complete just six km of road in ten years which speaks volume of the state of affairs in the department", he said.
Mohammad Rayaz, another resident said that the said agency worked on this road only three months while it remained suspended for rest of the year.
He further said that few months back Deputy Commissioner Doda visited Chattra, and the locals urged him to direct the executing agency to start the work of this road.
At that time Commissioner directed XEn PMGSY to complete this road project without any delay but the officer at the time assured locals that the earthwork of the road shall be completed within two months but within couple of deputy commissioner's visit, the work was stopped.
"More than 1000 families reside in Chattra and their neighboring villages but they still have no road connectivity and they have to walk several km on foot to reach the town", another resident said, adding that it was difficult for aged person, students especially for girls who have to go to college in Bhaderwah town.
They appealed to Governor NN Vohra to direct concerned authorities to speed up the construction work of Seri to Chattra road.
Despite repeated calls, XEn PMGSY Doda didn't respond.
