BJP, NC on same page, want Mehbooba to form Govt | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 14: As the suspense over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir entered into 8th day on Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Conference have started talking in the same language and both the parties have advised the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti to carry forward the alliance which was stitched by her late father. The first one to advise Mehbooba was the National Conference working President Omar Abdullah, who recently said, "Mehbooba was part of this alliance being formed, it was she and her colleagues who went and met Amit Shah when the alliance was created, she was very much part of swearing in, she was there on stage when oaths were taken. Why should we automatically make the assumption that Mehbooba is not in a position to take this alliance forward? Mehbooba was part of the consensus that built the alliance. She's been equally vocal in her praise of PM Modi as Mufti was." Omar said, "If Mehbooba walks away from the alliance it would mean that late Mufti was wrong." The BJP MLA from Kalakote and former Transport Minister, Abdul Gani Kohli said, "PDP president Mehbooba Mufti cannot go for other options as she will not like to go against her father's wish". "Her late father has created a path in the form of BJP-PDP coalition for equitable development of the state. Mehbooba ji, who was closely attached to her father, can't deviate from this path," he said. Analysts believe that neither NC nor the BJP want elections to be held at this point of time as both the parties are aware about the fact that polls can spell doom for them. "BJP doing nothing for Jammu region during the past nine months has disconnected its leaders from the people. People of Jammu region are waiting for a chance to teach BJP a lesson," he added. "On the other hand NC knows it very well that if Mehbooba says no to Chief Minister's chair and breaks its alliance with BJP, it would help her party to regain its popularity which has witnessed a decline during the last nine months. Another factor which can help PDP and Mehbooba is the sympathy wave," the analyst opined. Sources claimed that a strong lobby within the PDP is also trying its best to persuade Mehbooba to come forward and take oath as the Chief Minister. "Many first timers are beating their chests as within one night they have been rendered jobless," they added. Insiders said that there are not many people within the PDP who want to go with the Congress as party has got only 12 seats. "Even if PDP and Congress join hands they would have to depend on the support provided by the independents and chances of such government to be stable are bleak. There are only two options either continue alliance with BJP or go for polls," sources added. On Thursday PDP senior leader and former Education Minister Naeem Akther added a twist to the tale and indicated that his party has hardened its stand. "Our party expects concrete action on an agenda for governance agreed upon last year, to continue an alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. An agenda of alliance was drafted...it has to be implemented." |
