NILM celebrates Makar Sankranti | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 14: National Incredible Literacy Mission (NILM), Jammu today celebrated 'Makar Sankranti' with religious fervour at district head office premises in Nagrota. According to official spokesperson, students were made aware about the significance of festival to mark the end of the cold winter months by Vishal Sharma Deputy Secretary, NILM. Thakur KD Kurhan, Chairman, NILM told the students that Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the sun into the zodiacal sign of Makara (Capricorn) on its celestial path. "The day is also believed to mark the arrival of spring in India as per religious traditions, speakers said. "Makara Sankranti is a solar event making it one of the few Hindu festivals which fall on the same date in the Hindu/Nepali calendar every year January 14, spokesperson said. During the proceedings of occasion the students presented a colourful cultural programme. |
