| BJP's pressure groups within PDP worry Mehbooba | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 28: Notwithstanding her posturing on certain issues over the last two weeks, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti is stated to be in deep dilemma over formation of government in the state.
To align or not to align again with BJP is the big predicament while as the option of going with 'secular forces' is also posing no less than a catch -22 situation.
To add to this quandary is the BJP's hidden strategy in creating pressure groups within PDP which add to her woes.
Sources said while the PDP chief is taking too much time in taking a final decision on formation of the government, it is not all that easy for her as in the given situation she finds herself surrounded in dilemma that justifies her state of mind.
Sources within the party said Mehbooba at present is not consulting any leaders but apparently she has confined it with a couple of close confidantes outside the party as to what is holding her from taking final decision in the given scenario.
One major dilemma, sources said is that if she chooses to go with secular forces, an option which has even been suggested from within the party by one of senior leaders and MP Tariq Hameed Qarra who is openly against BJP, she will herself prove her late father , a veteran politician wrong who chose to align with BJP only a year back , albeit on the premise of a workable Agenda of Alliance. Though this agenda seldom worked for PDP, yet it would be antagonizing her own father if at this juncture she chooses to go with secular forces.
Sources also said though she has not opened her cards yet on any option, this one continues to be open, something on which Qarra has been consistently laying thrust contending it will retrieve the political damage to party inflicted by aligning with BJP.
He is reported to have discussed this in one to one meeting held recently with Mehbooba, said the sources adding that it was after this meeting the party chief has maintained complete silence on the political issues.
However, if she chooses to part ways with BJP and go with secular forces as strongly supported by Qarra, she would prove him right as he has been asking for this much before Mufti Mohammad Sayed's demise.
On the other hand her dilemma is also for the fact that central leadership of BJP is reported to have created pressure groups within her party and the persons so roped in by the BJP matter for influencing MLAs of the PDP. As BJP is waiting for Mehbooba to take call for government formation, in case of her reluctance or a situation of no forward movement, Mehbooba is groped with apprehensions of her party facing a split or under pressure from BJP to forge alliance with it, sources said. While one of the leaders under influence of BJP is a veteran and senior politician having served state in various capacities, the other one, though a novice was minister of a prestigious department in the erstwhile alliance with BJP, sources further said. |
