3 days after R-Day, MA Stadium still shut for sportsmen, open for clubbers | | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report jammu, Jan 28: Attribute it to the whims and fancies of those at the helm of affairs and lack of laid standard procedures, sensitive issue like security is also dealt with different benchmarks for different people in J&K. Three days after the Republic Day celebrations went off peacefully at M A stadium, the venue of the main ceremonial function, the only centre of sports training in the city has still been kept out of bound for sportsmen, who have been suffering for over a month when the stadium was sanitized due to security reasons; but astoundingly, the Jammu Club, that is housed in the Stadium complex has been thrown open for the influential clubbers, who come there merely for recreation and entertainment. Entry of sports persons of over 15 sports disciplines who trained at M A Stadium complex were denied entry weeks ahead of the Republic Day function for security reasons, curbing their regular training. "Some of them who were likely to participate in the national level championships within a few days suffered a lot as they were training for months for these competitions" said an athlete, who was driven out of his centre three weeks ahead of the Republic day. "Now that the R-Day is over, still we are not being allowed to use even the indoor complex, while the Jammu club has been thrown open to the influential members" he added expressing regret. Resentment is brewing amongst the sportspersons for the dual benchmarks of the security agencies. "There is no accountability and they take illogical decisions subjectively" rued a senior athlete. "Is there any logic in allowing entry to clubbers and denying the same to the sportspersons?" he asked. A senior officer of the sports council when contacted said that it was a security issue and there is little they could do. "This time the stadium was taken over early by the security agencies in view of the security threat and also attack in neighbouring Pathankot, but we have no option as it a security issue" he averred. However, he expressed concern that Jammu club was opened and indoor complex was still closed. |
