'Sexploitation' of school girls: Police registers case
1/28/2016 11:57:04 PM
ET Report
srinagar, Jan 28: Prompted by a series of reports carried by Early Times about the alleged exploitation of Government schoolgirls in Kashmir, the Government has formally handed over the case to police.
The decision in this regard was taken by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, who is understood to have taken a serious note of delay into "mishandled internal inquiry", started by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir.
Dr Samoon decided to handover the case to the police after consultations with the senior officials of police and Education Department.
Sources said the Divisional Commissioner, who was personally in know of the complaint, had called SSP Srinagar Amit Kumar and SP Sridhar Patil and others to his office chambers at Tanki Pora where it was unanimously decided that the case was of "serious dimensions" and this needs to be handed over to police without any delay to know the reality.
Sources said the news reports as published by Early Times were also discussed threadbare during the meeting. This newspaper was first to break the story.
"The Government wants to clear the air over the issue and, so it was a must to file a formal case with police," the sources said, adding "things need to be made clear."
The sources said the police had been waiting for registration of formal complaint and this was why the police investigations were yet not started. "But now that we received complaint from the Government the case has been filed," the sources said.
Sources said the police would question the complainants and the accused while the house in Harwan locality would also be visited to verify the veracity of the complaint.
The police, as per the sources, approached the office of Director School Education Kashmir, to get details of the case as the Education Department has started "internal inquiry into the matter."
"The copy of the inquiry file has been taken and it comprises of details of the case along with the versions given by various persons linked to the case," the sources said.
The parents had filed a formal complaint with Government. The formal complaint has accused the teacher of serious charges. "Ms (teacher, name withheld) gave contact number of (man, name withheld), self-claimed Director of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar, to the students telling them that (he) will enable them to participate in cultural programs," the letter reads.
As per the complaint, this "imposter" subsequently asked the girls to meet him for performance. "The girls were told by (him) to meet him outside the Govt Women's College, MA Road on January 9, 2016. (He) board us with our mothers in a local sumo and carried to New Theed, Harwan but on the way he nowhere stopped the said sumo near none of the school though he told that there is some school program," the complaint letter, a copy of which lies with Early Times reveals.
"At New Theed the Sumo stopped and (he) told us to come in some house," States the complaint.
"But only I entered into the house at New Theed wherein I found six youths above 20 years old and I returned outside and cried and took both the students back to (school) where I narrated the whole episode to the principal of the school." Mother said in the complaint, "Had I not returned from the said house and carried the students along with me, there would have cause some problem for these students. In this way the mothers of the complainant herein developed fear about the daughters in the school."
