Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 28: Apart from the PDP leadership which continues to remain on tenterhooks ahead of its crucial January 31 meet, the entire mainstream camp of the State including the Congress and the National Conference have started reaching Srinagar to watch the upcoming developments.
Leaders including the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, NC patron Farooq Abdullah, State Congress chief G.A Mir and several others have started reaching the summer capital three days ahead of the proposed PDP meeting.
Sources said that the NC patron Dr Farooq and president Omar Abdullah are arriving in Srinagar to maintain close vigil over the latest developments. Sources divulged that besides the senior Congress leadership including party's State chief G.A. Mir, Ghulam Nabi Azad is also expected to remain camped in Srinagar for few days.
As the stalemate over the formation of Government continues in JK, the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has maintained silence over the latest development unfolding vis-a-vis the future of coalition in the State.
For nearly three weeks as the deadlock doesn't seem to end in very near future, the PDP has announced that the party chief will meet senior party leaders in Srinagar on January 31 to seek their views on the issue.
"The PDP president has convened a meeting of senior party workers and zonal presidents on January 31 in Srinagar to discuss the latest developments in the State including getting feedback from them on Government formation," a senior PDP leader was quoted by reports on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the letters have also been shot to the legislators and party functionaries to ensure presence in the party meet on January 31. The letter in possession of the Early Times reads that in order to carry forward the mission of the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the opinions and suggestions of those who have played vital role in the formation of the PDP, are sought.
Sources also divulged that the PDP is launching a massive membership drive in the State and would ensure maximum participation of the general masses in the initiative.
Sources said that during the meet, Mehbooba’s elevation as the Chief Minister would also be discussed besides deliberations over the role of Mufti's son Tasaduq Mufti is going to play during the times ahead.
Furthermore, sources within the NC and the Congress are waiting in wings, keenly observing the developments that would unfold in JK's political world after January 31. "There are closed door meetings going on and every one is discussing at threadbare the possible outcome of the meet which the PDP chief is going to chair," a senior NC leader said while pleading anonymity.
Mehbooba who was seen, as the successor of her father after latter's demise on January 7 has maintained suspense over assuming office hasn't staked claim to form the Government.
