| Army foils infiltrations bid in Tangdhar; 4 militants, soldier killed | | |  S Tahir-ul Haq

KUPWARA, June 16: Four militants and a solider were killed as army foiled infiltration bid near LoC in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district today.
A senior police official told Early Times that, "Army foiled an infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district near the LoC this morning.
Two unidentified militants were killed in the initial exchange of firing while a soldier who was injured in the ongoing operation, later succumbed to injuries, said official.
The official said that, in the afternoon two more militants were killed in the counter-infiltration operation, after which the whole area was cordoned off to track down the hiding militants in the area, quickly added the operation has been called off.
This is second infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in three days along the Line of Conrol (LoC) in Tangdhar area, the official informed.
However sources said that, "Last week a militant was intercepted and killed near Katwara forest area in the neighbouring Machil sector. One soldier was killed and four reportedly injured in the encounter.
The slain soldier had been identified as Ajay Chaurdhary from 56 Rashtriya Rifles' signalman, while the injured were identified as Nikhil Ghaur, Nitesh Kumar and Suraj, said sources.
They said that, "The injured had been reportedly airlifted to Srinagar and admitted to 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar.
The identity of the slain militants has not yet been ascertained, while as army is doing a combing and search operations to track down more militants, sources informed.
Meanwhile Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col N N Joshi said that, the encounter raged in the area after suspected militants tried to enter this side of Kashmir, adding that the "operation is still going on.
Today four militants and a solider were killed, after army foiled an infiltration bid in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district, adding war like store has been recovered from their procession.
It is pertinent to mention here that, in an another encounter in Manchil sector, one Army soldier and one militant were killed, which erupted two days back after the Army tried to foil an infiltration attempt of the militants in the Machil sector of frontier Kupwara district near Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir. |
