Opposition legislators fight with govt over money recovery in Anantnag | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 16: The issue pertaining to the recovery of more than 50 lakh rupees from a vehicle in the poll bound Anantnag district today generated heated debate between the treasury and opposition benches in the Legislative Assembly. Raising the issue after the culmination of the question hour, a Congress legislator said that the money that was recovered from a Maruti Alto was meant to be distributed among the voters of the Anantnag assembly segment that is going to polls on June 22. He accused the state government of trying to lure the voters of the constituency by offering them the money. "On Tuesday evening an amount of Rs. 58 lakhs was recovered from a Maruti Alto. One of the two persons who were travelling in the car is an employee of Jammu & Kashmir Bank at its Ashajipora, Anantnag branch. The bank employee said that the amount was to be deposited in the chest of the said branch," said the legislator. The Congress legislator said the statement of bank employee is far off from truth since any car carrying cash for a bank branch is accompanied by an escort vehicle. He said no protocol was followed in this regard and that the money was meant to be distributed among the voters of the Anantnag constituency. The legislator was joined by other legislators of Congress and National Conference. Responding to the allegations of the opposition legislators, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Chowdhary Zulfiqar Ali said that there is no truth about the accusations. He said the opposition should prove the allegations adding that they would fail in this regard. "The entire election process is being supervised by Election Commission of India (ECI). If you have any proof with regard to the allegations leveled by you then you should submit the same with ECI. Let the whole issue be enquired so that the truth comes out and the picture becomes clear," said Zulfiqar. During the question hour some of the legislators of Congress, National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janta Party raised voice against the denial of promotion to the employees belonging to the reserved categories. |
