Out of jail, Malik threatens stir | Friday Politics | | Holds consultation with Geelani, Mirwaiz, calls for intensified protests from today
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 16: After not getting much response for the strike calls, separatists on Thursday held joint consultations in Srinagar to decide how to launch a full-fledged agitation against the proposed industrial policy and setting up of Sainik and KP colonies in Kashmir. Sources told Early Times the self-styled JKLF Chief Yasin Malik, who was released recently from the Jail, held consultations with Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and later they issued a joint statement asking people to stage protests after Friday prayers. It's in place to mention here that recently Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had trained guns at separatists for instigating youth on Fridays and making it difficult for the people to offer prayers on the auspicious day. A police official while talking to Early Times said, "Separatists choose Friday for protests as people assemble in mosques in large numbers to offer congregational prayers and they take advantage of it." Sources revealed that Malik expressed dismay over Geelani and Mirwaiz not being able to intensify the agitation when he was in jail. The so-called JKLF Chief Yasin Malik, has been spearheading the campaign against the separate colonies for KPs and other initiatives which the present government is contemplating. Insiders said that since the day Malik has been released from the jail he has been busy in organizing his henchmen and others who could prove handy in fomenting trouble and orchestrating street protests and stone pelting. "The Hurriyat hawk (Geelani) and the dove (Mirwaiz) have been compelled by their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) to join hands with Malik to somehow trigger unrest in the Valley," sources added. They said, "Malik was released due to political pressure otherwise Police were ready to prepare a watertight case against him." Sources said, "Top officials have informed their political bosses that Malik has to be tamed to maintain law and order as he is working on a bigger plan to appease his bosses sitting in Pakistan." Officials, according to the sources, have said, "Geelani and Mirwaiz are just paper tigers and they don't want to go beyond issuing press statements but Malik on the other hand is preparing ground to set Kashmir on fire and score brownie points over his opponents. By taking control Malik wants to emerge as the leader of separatists and wants Pakistan to recognize him. Malik knows it very well that Geelani has become old and there are no successors in his camp." Sources said, "Police have been asked to go slow till the by-polls in Anantnag assembly constituency are held. The future course of action would be decided after polls end." |
