poonch, June 16: Atleast 15 villages alongwith 40 hamlets of Mendhar in Poonch district have been facing acute shortage of drinking water where District Development Commissioner concerned declared drought like situation in these villages here today. According to officials, the worst affected villages include Bhata Durian, Mohra Kellar, Sanjoit, Bassoni, Balakote, Lanjoit, Kalaban, Ghani, Balnoil, Naka Manjhari, Dabassi, Sohana, Panjani, Gursai and Chhattral besides 40 hemlets which were facing shortage of drinking water since a quite time. Here it needs to mention that the Early Times have been carrying stories on the same in its previous editions to highlight the issue but nothing has been done concrete in this regard. AEE Sub Division PHE Mendhar Israr Khan when contacted told Early Times that the major water tank was sent to Jammu for necessary repairs which caused the problems to people in these areas. "We have hired 4 tanks where as we require a number of 10 tanks to serve the purpose," Khan added. While talking to Early Times, the District Development Commissioner (DDC) M H Malik told that the situation of several villages and surrounding hamlets is drought like due to shortage of water and men and machinery have been pressed in to service to mitigate the need of people in this hot summer. "More arrangements were on anvil,' the DDC assured. |
