Govt to set up House Committee to probe mysterious Mubarak Mandi fire in 2009

srinagar, June 16: The government of Jammu and Kashmir today announced that it will constitute a House Committee to probe the mysterious fire incident that took place in Mubarak Mandi Jammu in the year February 2009.
In response to CQ.No. 223 of Congress MLC seeking details of the fire incidents occurred in Mubarak Mandi Historical Complex also sought the copy of the inquiry committee headed by the then Estates Minister Jag Jeveen Lal after 31st May 1985 devastating fire incident at Goal Ghar which destroyed it completely; the Minister in charge Culture in response to the question informed the Legislative Council that the Department of Culture has been established in the year 2008 while Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society was constituted on 28-12-2006 added that after constitution of the said society, only one incident of fire occurred on 9th of February 2009 and further added that no inquiry has been conducted in this regard.
In response to the supplementary of Congress MLC wherein she ask that why only Dogra Heritage sites catches fire, the Minister i/c said that the incident took place during the regime of the previous government added that he was not in a position to answer her quarry.
"Not satisfied with Minister's reply, the Congress MLC further demanded probe into this mysterious fire incident beside also wants to know from the Minister what are the reasons and who order for demolishing the park and historical Chabutra there.
As the Minister I/c failed to give satisfactorily reply, the BJP MLC created uproar in the Upper House and supported the demand of Congress MLC .
While raising strong voice in support of the constitution of house committee to probe the mysterious fire incident in Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, the BJP MLC accused the government of adopting non serious and anti Dogra approach towards preservation of Dogra Heritage Culture.
PDP MLC Firdous Ahmed Tak also supported the demand of BJP and Congress MLC and questioned the silence of National Conference and Congress legislators present in the house.
"Something is fishy this is why they (NC/Congress) are silent" said Tak.
Succumbing to the pressure of the agitating MLCs, the Minister I/c on behalf of the government said that the government could understand their sentiments towards this heritage site and keeping in view these sentiments the government will constitute house committee to probe this mysterious fire incident.
The government in its reply also stated that it had spent an amount of Rs. 12.93 crores till date on Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex.
