Govt to consider rollback of tax on helicopter services to Vaishnodevi, Amarnath | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 16: Jammu and Kashmir government today said it will revisit its decision to impose tax on helicopter services to Mata Vaishnodevi and Amarnath cave shrine in the state as it does not have huge financial implications. However, right now there was no proposal to rollback the tax imposed on helicopter services to Vaishnodevi and Amarnath cave shrine. Minister for Finance while replying to a question by member in Legislative Assembly, said commercial helicopter services operating Jammu and Kashmir have been brought within the ambit of taxation with effect from September 2, 2015. He said it included helicopter services to Mata Vaishnodevi and Amarnath shrine. He said the rate of tax in respect of commercial helicopter services is 12.6 per cent. However, he said as the tax collected from helicopter services to Mata Vaishnodevi and Amarnath shrine doesn't have a huge financial implication, the government will consider its decision. Meanwhile, Independent MLA while quoting the Constitution of India, said the tax imposed on these services were illegal and have no ground under the law. But, the Finance Minister was quick to respond, saying that Jammu and Kashmir is the only state which has the power to impose tax on services. Hence, he said the government has everything to impose taxes on any kind of services. |
