Angered by police failure to nab accused, protesters burn 2 vehicles | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, July 4: Angered by the alleged police failure to nab at a naka a car driver, who had killed a scooty operator and critically injured the pillion rider in a road accident here late last night, protesters set ablaze a police vehicle and the car of the accused. The rashly driven Eco car had hit the scooty from behind, killing its driver and seriously injuring the pillion rider. Protesters alleged that the car number was flashed to police but they failed to intercept it before it hit the retaining wall while negotiating a sharp curve near Khandli bridge after covering a distance of about 4 km. He was then captured by locals. Over the alleged police failure to intercept the accused at the naka, the town witnessed violent clashes between police and protesters till 11.30 pm on Sunday. The protesters later set on fire a police vehicle near district hospital, Rajouri, and the car of the accused near Khandli bridge. In stone pelting, some damage to window panes was also noticed in the C-block of hospital. Police have registered a case under sections 302 and 109 of RPC against the accused who was identified as Jai Ram, son of Kamal Singh of Gawalior, MP, a case under sections 147, 332, 341, 336, 353, 435, 457 and 329 of RPC against unidentified persons for burning police vehicle. The incident took place at about 9.30 pm on Sunday near district hospital when the accused, who was drunk, along with his friend Surinder Kumar of Gawalior hit the scooty from behind driven by Danish Malik, son of Ghulam Qadir. While Danish was killed on the spot, pillion rider Rizwan Mirza received multiple fractures and was admitted to the GMCH, Jammu. SSP Rajeshwar Singh has assured a stringent action in this incident. The accused had been putting up at Rajouri in a rented accommodation. They used to prepare sweets and then supply them to shopkeepers in Rajouri and Poonch in their Eco car. Some cops were also said to have sustained injuries in stone pelting. |
