Rising cases of NDPS in Reasi: No efforts to catch big fish 7/4/2016 10:56:46 PM A B Sharma Early Times Report Reasi, July 4: In the increasing cases of narcotics and drug trafficking in the state, it is alleged that insignificant people of the larger racket are trapped while the big fish escape invariably. In district Reasi , a case of similar nature came to the fore where a constable engaged in drug trafficking was booked while the higher ups who too were in the loop in the illicit trade were left scot free. Two constables , namely Gurcharan Singh , s/o Rumal singh r/o Udhampur and posted at Reasi and another Anku Kumar s/o Subhash Chander, r/o Katra and posted at Reasi were rounded up by the Reasi police and an FIR no. 96/16 U/S NDPS Act was slapped against them for illegal trafficking of narcotics . Along with them two other accomplices namely Mohan Lal s/o Opy Ram r/o Pouni and Kunal Pandoh s/o Virender Kumar and r/o Reasi too were rounded up. Meanwhile a sense of suspicion arises when it is learnt that Gurcharn Singh, the main culprit constable who being the driver of senior police officer, was rounded up while the officers with whom he served as driver were never questioned. It is pertinent to mention here that in 2013, Gurcharan Singh used to drive the police vehicle of the then SHO Katra and used to smuggle drugs also. The people allege that while Gurcharan Singh was rounded up, no action or enquiry was initiated against the then SHO Katra . The then SSP Raghubir Singh had taken the cognizance of the factual position and attached the SHO to District Police Lines Reasi . After remaining attached for some time, the SHO, who enjoyed the patronage of the higher police official got his position reinstated by the then DIG and got his position back as SHO to some other place. Here again the same SHO after being roped in for certain misconduct was again attached to the Line where he remained suspended for some time . It is pertinent to mention that it is only due to undaunted efforts by SSP Reasi Sujit Kumar that crime rate has come down in Reasi .The SSP since his posting in the area has assured that crime graph should come down.
