DDC suspends JE PHE, withholds salary of XEn, AEE | Water scarcity affects normal life | | Tahir Mushtaq Early Times Report RAMBAN, July 4: Acute scarcity of water has exposed tall claims of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department of the state government to provide smooth water supply to every citizen across the district Ramban. Taking a serious notice on non performance of duty to restore the supply of water for drinking purpose in Ramban town, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ramban, Mohammad Aijaz initiated a strict action against Junior Engineer (JE), PHE Ramban, Jagjeet Singh and placed him under suspension with immediate effect. Meanwhile, the salary of Executive Engineer PHE (Hydraulic) Ramban and Assistant Executive Engineer, Sub- Division, Ramban, Sandeep Singh is withheld till further order. Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Ramban has been asked to enquire into the negligence in a matter involving the issue of public health and hygiene. According to sources, the concerned department had projected a plan of installation of a filtration plant for Ramban tehsil in 1977, but after the lapse of 39 year they are unable to do so putting the lives of thousands of people at stake. Officials further said that the department had planned to cover the Ramban town in phase 1 while in second phase, area of Maitra and Government Degree College Ramban were to be covered for which department approved Rs 3.98 crore and Rs 1019.60 lacs respectively. Officials added that for installation of filtration plant the department had issued the tenders five times but didn't get any response, due to which the work of filtration plant is still pending. According to the sources although entire Ramban district is confronting with the problem of non-availability of potable water, but Ramban tehsil is worst affected where natural resources have not been properly used by the PHE Department due to which most of the water supply schemes have become defunct. There are many areas of Ramban in which people are suffering from the absence of water especially in the holy month of Ramadan. Sources further said that that the residents of mountainous belts of this district are facing worst ever water crisis this year and non-availability of drinking water has added their woes. Ironically, crores of rupees have been spent by the concern department to supply drinking water to the people but nothing has been done on the ground. Most of the water supply schemes are running on the papers but on ground these schemes are defunct and those who have been at the helm of the affairs have never tried to where money has been gone. It is very difficult to survive in this high temperature without water. The concern department should think about it and supply water continues. |
