'Development of tourist spots being deliberately ignored'

Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 4: Governing body members of J&K Citizen Advisory Forum (CAF) -- Jugal Mahajan, businessman and ex-president of chamber of commerce and industry, and ex-chief engineer Arun Sharma - have alleged that the development of tourist spots of Jammu was being deliberately ignored by the state government.
Addressing the maiden CAF meeting here , Mahajan said deliberate attempts had been made from time to time to discourage the development of tourist spots of Jammu.
He said while crores were being spent for the upkeep of Dal lake in Srinagar, the successive state governments had adopted a step-motherly treatment towards Sruinsar and Mansar lakes of Jammu.
"It is too difficult to drive on the Samba-Mansar road as a long stretch of it is badly broken and has death traps in the forms of pits all over it," Mahajan said and asked if there was any one in the state government to take an initiative to repair this road.
"Till the road is repaired, no tourist will prefer to go to the lake," he asserted.
Sharma emphasised the need for proper traffic management in Jammu city. "There is a total traffic mismanagement in urban areas here, causing a lot of inconvenience to the vehicle operators," he asserted, saying that there was an urgent need to evolve a strategy for the smooth flow of traffic on the Jammu roads.
He was highly critical of the poor healthcare facilities in the winter capital of the state and said CAF must take steps to highlight the issue at the proper platform.
"We needed a CAF-like platform to fight against discrimination with Jammu and held the poor and the needy," Sharma asserted.
