Land Transfer bill: BJP MLAs more competent, capable than ministers? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 4: As the faux pas over the land transfer bill, has exhibited incapability and incapacity of the BJP ministers to comprehend the highly sensitive issues having far reaching consequences, the turn of events that followed have also unfolded that party's legislators are far more sharp, law knowing and adept in handling the matters on legal grounds contesting them on political grounds. Sources said even as the issue has been pushed to back burner by referring it to Select Committee of the House, the credit of which all goes to the BJP legislators, the latter have drawn appreciation not only from political circles but also from within the party for showing some grit and resisting it tooth and nail in the House which led to at least getting the matter deferred for now. However, all the BJP ministers including seniors took it so casually and showed no sign of concern, nor did they understand its implications as a grave blunder, something which the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh is learnt to have admitted before the Central leadership. When the bill was first taken up in the cabinet meeting for formal approval in the changes so PDP wanted to make in terms of doing away with provision of land transfer on agreement basis, BJP ministers behaved in a manner in the same way as Congress behaved in the year 2004 with regard to Women's bill, sources said while explaining naivety of BJP ministers over the land transfer issue. They (Congress) could not comprehend or understand what it envisaged and what furore it would entail until it got passed, catching all but PDP unawares. Some NC law knowing veterans also knew at that time what was the intention behind women's bill but since it suited the party politically, they remained silent. Ruling ally Congress and a few MLAs of BJP were actually caught unawares, though Congress later tried to do some damage control in vain, sources said. However, in the House following day, BJP legislators took the command to take on in full combative mood and mode, contesting it on political and legal grounds. Some ministers of ruling PDP tried to rope in NC as a matter of having a tacit understanding in getting the bill through, but it were the BJP legislators Rajiv Jasrotia, RS Pathania and DK Manyal in the front who handled it all in a battle of nerves amid noise and ruckus while ruling PDP tried to bite the bullet, sources said. |
