Jammu, June 4: The new building of Information Department located at Bahu Plaza is devoid of necessary amenities required for the staff and media persons visiting there.
According to media persons who happened to visit the new four storeyed complex of Department of Information and Public Relations, it was revealed that the several lacs seems to have been spent for raising huge complex to house various offices of Information Department like Directorate of Information Department, provincial office of Joint Director of Information, Jammu, Cultural and Field Publicity wings of the department.
The sources further told that the huge complex is without Lift and the media and other persons visiting this complex are devoid of this facility making them to reach concerned wings of the Information Department for official work stepping upstairs with old and physically feeble finding it difficult to reach the different wings of departmental offices located there. The sources told that in the modern way of functioning of offices of government and private sectors, the building complexes are equipped with the facility of Lift for comforts of staff and visitors and saving times of visitors but one wonders what deterred the authorities of the department to skip getting the Lift installed in the multi storeyed building. Another aspect which attracts the attention of various visitors is about no facility of water coolers in the building. The staff and journalists coming there have to use the normal drinking water, even that is not easily available during this sweltering heat, a high profile media person said adding that it is a public relation office which means to have close liaison with various types of print and electronic media persons.
He said that according to established convention generally experienced while dealing with the Information Department, it has been seen that appropriate care is taken for the people belonging to the field of journalism so that a cordial and strong PR is maintained paving way for sound liaison with them to keep them in good humour for promoting and highlighting the policies and programmes of the government.
The sources told that in the Information Department earlier located at Mubarkh Mandi Jammu there was facility arranged by the administration for round the clock electric supply with installation of special electric lines, but in the new complex of Information Department, this facility is not available.
The sources told pointing out that the information technology has advanced with high speed in this state like other states of the country. In order to ensure optimum utility of the technology for generation and dissemination of news highlighting achievements of the government to all nook and corner of the State , uninterrupted supply of electricity cannot be glosses over and is quite imperative to facilitate hassle free functioning of the department.
Pertinent to add, the sources said that the Information Department is the mouth piece of the government and the Department works as a bridge between Government and other private print and electronic media in order to create good will and conducive atmosphere to promote interests of the government for building sound public opinion in favour of the government about its functioning, a veteran journalist told, adding that the success and failure of the government depends on the timely, quick and widespread publicity about various people friendly schemes launched by the centre and state governments and implemented on grounds for achieving the targets for the overall benefits of such programmes finally reached to the gross root level amongst the masses. |
