Government criticized for legislators' salary hike, other bills | | | Early Times Report Bhadewrah , July 4: PDP-BJP coalition has lost people's mandate due to its vision less policies, mis-governance from the day of its formation and this government may fall within one year. This was stated by former Member Parliament and National Conference Senior leader Sheikh Abdul Rehman today in a press conference held at Bhaderwah . He criticized the government for doubling the salary of the legislators and not implementing the 7th Pay Commission recommendations in the state. Rehman alleged that people were suffering as they were not getting basic amenities such as drinking water, power, roads and health care. He said instead of solving the problems of people, the legislators were interested in increasing their own salaries, raising a question on the democratic set up and the working of the PDP-led coalition government. "When the Chief Minister, legislatures and ministers have to double their salary and perks, the financial position of J&K is strong. When it comes to the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations to the government employees and mitigating the suffering of the people, the reply is to wait because of the financial condition of the state," he added. He also lashed out at Central Government for failure in bringing black money back in country as promised earlier during elections and also alleged that crime and inflation in country beat all previous records . National Conference (NC) leader also described the amendment to Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Raj Act 1989 as murder of democracy, saying this is a well considered machination of the PDP-BJP duo to muzzle peoples' democratic aspirations at the grass root level. "The way the insensitive alliance rushed to pass the Amendment Bill, despite strong plea of National Conference for its reconsideration by a Select Committee, speaks of the anti-democratic mindset of the duo and its brazen arrogance at the strength of numbers in the Legislative Assembly", Sheikh Abdul Rehman alleged . He said the Bill would lead to weakening the Panchayati Raj System by scuttling the democratic principles. |
