PDP leader sees no benefit in resigning
'People will forget issue in few months'

Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 17: In the wake of ongoing turmoil in Kashmir, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader was planing to tender his resignation from the party but a second thought has made him change his plans at the eleventh hour.
Sources said the PDP leader and MLA, who has earlier remained a minister, was told by some of his close supporters and party workers that he should resign in the "wake of ongoing unrest which has left at least 43 people dead and hundreds wounded."
The leader was told by his people that he would have to face an "awkward situation if he doesn't resign as the people were unhappy the way the state government tackled the crises", which erupted in the wake of killing of militant commander Burhan Muzafar Wani on July 8 in south Kashmir.
As Kashmir continued to be on the boil, the emotionally-charged leader had almost made up his mind to resign from the party and subsequently inform the media about the development through a press conference.
However there came a twist at the last moment when some of his "well-wishers" told him that as situation has started to improve, his resignation would not fetch any benefit to his political career.
Citing the examples of turmoil in 2008 when the state witnessed unrest over Amarnath land row followed by the crises in 2010, when over 120 persons were killed during the regime of Omar Abdullah, the PDP leader was told that if Omar Abdullah could safely complete his innings as Chief Minister, why should the PDP have any problems?
"Moreover the people easily forget such incidents as a bad dream… They have learnt to move ahead with times," the leader was told.
Sources said the leader found the argument of his well-wishers "very logical" and decided to "shelve his program on resignation."
Sources said the politician has conveyed to his supporters that he has "kept his decision to resign in abeyance."
