Separatists push Kashmir to edge, Government silent | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 17: As Kashmir situation continues to be volatile, Separatist "King" Geelani and company are enjoying all privileges despite being under house arrest, thanks to the government which allows them to be treated as VVIPs, notwithstanding the fact that they have pushed the Valley to edge yet again with all their manoeuvrability of fanning sentiments. The irony is that everyone right from the government to media knows who are the real culprits for pushing the Valley to edge, yet any harsh action eludes. Every time the irony of trouble that erupts is that paid protesting youth are engaged in battle with security forces and separatist leaders enjoy luxuries of life under well protected , guarded houses, cozying themselves in front of TV sets and watching their strategies worked well in putting the place up in flames. Some separatist leaders get easy access to media persons to give interviews on the developments while others are even more special that TV channels come knocking at their doorsteps-all for the sake of their bites or comments for the TV shows. While media, particularly the local channels have made them all important entities, despite the entire lot being responsible for current crisis, the government too continues to treat them as special status category right from their personal security and protected homes to their movement on roads (some defying curfew and undeterred by action) and even at the airports where staff and police treat them no less than the dignitaries. On the contrary, the protestors are toiling hard on the roads and streets, busy in pitched battles with security forces and police, a task for which they are paid well by the mentors in separatists like Geelani. That is an irony and a mockery made by none other than the governments, both at centre and state who are acting as mute spectators. The brazen irony is also for the fact that as Geelani abhors men in uniform, his security people around him have been made to be in plain clothes and not in uniform. This is utter state of helplessness exhibited by the government, that amounts to no less than kneeling before them and succumbing to their tactics. The irony remains when Mirwaiz Umar and others while commenting on national TV channels equate militant Burhan Wani with Shaheed Bhagat Singh, an expression that is enough to fan sentiments of more and more youth. Spokespersons of all big parties and analysts listen to this comparison with rapt attention, that makes it all the more ironical. |
