Early Times Report Srinagar, July 17: The goverment has directed its employees to report to their duties immediately. The government has further directed the DCs to send attendance of the employees to civil secreteriat. Governance has come to a grinding halt following the unrest in valley against the civilian killings. On Sunday a senior cabinet minister told Early Times that since most of the employees failed to turn up for their duties, the directions have been passed to them to ensure their immediate presence in their respective offices. "Action would be taken against those who defy the directive," he said. He said that on Monday directions will be passed to all the Deputy Commissioners of the Kashmir valley to furnish regular attendance of employees to the civil secretariat. When asked that employees find it difficult to reach their offices he said, directions have been passed to police to treat identity cards of employees as "curfew passes" when and wherever restrictions are imposed by District Magistrates. Reports said that hundreds of the government offices in Srinagar city and the other parts of the valley are locked since the tension erupted in the valley. Sources said that the officials from Jammu have not reported for duties in Srinagar after Eid. This ET reporter also found most of the offices and banks locked on Saturday. "Not to talk of lower rung employees, even most of the KAS officers from the region have not joined duties after unrest gripped Kashmir," a bureaucrat, preferring anonymity, said. The directive comes at a time when the government has been slammed for its failure to handle the Kashmir situation. Sources said that in Srinagar district most of the government offices have been remained locked from the, last one week. Though some offices opened but the employees could not attend their offices due to restrictions imposed by the authorities. Sources said that the situation in other districts of the Kashmir valley, where shutdowns and protests had been continuing for the past eight days, remained similar. The employees had complained inconvenience to reach their offices without any proper transport facility. "There was no transport service available. It is impossible for an employee to walk on foot amid restrictions to reach office," one of the employees said. |
