Bickering between BJP, PDP over Wani's killing unfortunate | | | It is unfortunate that while separatists continue to thrive on the turmoil in Kashmir over the killing of HM terrorist Burhan Wani, the coalition partners have not taken a united stand on the operation against the militants. If on one hand senior PDP leader and MP,Muzaffar Hussain Baig, has alleged that killing of Wani has been a violation of the norms set by the Supreme Court, the Army has stated that the operation was carried out in a clean manner which did not cause any discomfort to civilians or resulted in the killing of innocent civilians. The controversy between the PDP and the BJP has assumed new dimensions a senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister,Dr Nirmal Singh has rejected Baig's demand for a judicial probe into the terrorist's killing. Nirmal Singh has told Baig that there was no need for instituting a court of inquiry when it was simply an anti-terrorist operation. Burhan's killing has given rise to a new friction between PDP and BJP. And if this rift is not resolved it would not be good for the coalition. Nirmal Singh rebuffed the PDP's demand for a court of inquiry into the encounter, saying, "It was an anti-terrorist operation, and that should be understood in clear terms" He was reacting to the Baig's statement on Thursday, questioning the methodology of the encounter, which he alleged was in violation of a Supreme Court ruling. He accused the security forces of not having followed standard operating procedure in the July 8 encounter, the pitfall of which has resulted in three-dozen deaths, mostly of youngsters. Nirmal said, "We are very clear that this was an anti-terrorist operation, a proper FIR has been registered at the local police station (Kokernag). There is no need for a judicial probe after the Army too has stated that it was a neat operation. In fact the operation by the security forces had been carried out after receipt of specific inputs from intelligence agencies. And what is surprising is the way people in the area who have no political ideology, informed the security and intelligence agencies about the presence of Burhan Wani which led to his elimination. Earlier, Baig had stated that Chief Minister Mehbooba was not informed in advance about the encounter. Had she been informed, she would have asked the security forces' top brass to abandon the plan of eliminating Burhan and two others? Certainly not. It is the duty of the chief minister to seek help from police and security forces for maintaining peace by tackling effectively militants and their handlers and supporters..There are many Burhan Wanis in Kashmir and it is the duty of the security forces to eliminate all of them in order to promote peace which was necessary for development. |
