Early Times Report

Poonch, July 17: Already it has been reported many times about the illegal activities of Sand mining mafia before September 2014 floods and due to their illegal activities, the routes of Nangali Sahib river and Betar river changed deliberately, as a result, both the river caused maximum damages to property.
The same illegal mining activities continues to go an unabatedly.
Although the sand mining mafia is active in Poonch District but the million dollar questions is why District Mining officer has failed to take an action against them?
The major bridges of Poonch which are considered as life line of Poonch are at grave threat again due to extraction of sand and gravels from riverbeds in Poonch District. Authorities have allegedly failed to take action against the sand mafia in Poonch district despite court orders. The major bridges of Poonch are at threat due to extraction of sand and gravels from river bed. According to locals the condition of already suffered Nangali Sahib bridge where illegal extraction is going on unabatedly is worrisome. "Large number of trolleys carrying material from river beds is a daily routine. This is going on despite of the fact that High Court in October 2012 had banned extraction near major bridges. District administration also imposed ban many times but the order is being violated openly," locals claimed.
"Tractor trolleys are seen beneath major bridges off and on and it leads to an indication that Mining officer is also hand in glove with sand mining mafia," they added.
Locals said that mostly extraction is going on during early morning hours when tractor, tippers and trolley drivers are seen carrying minerals from river beds openly. Locals also demanded that District administration should take stern action against sand mining mafia as regular extraction is posing serious threat to major bridges of Poonch.
