Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 19: The government Tuesday claimed that the percentage of attendance of employees in Kashmir valley has shown an improvement.
Governance has come to a grinding halt following the unrest in valley against the civilian killings.
Official sources informed early times on Tuesday that attendance of employees at the civil secretariat, DC's offices and other government offices in the valley especially in the Srinagar district on Tuesday was high as compared to other days.
However sources said that things were, quite different in South Kashmir districts. "The attendance in the entire south Kashmir was low with most of the offices remaining shut for the 10th day," sources said.
One of the senior PDP Cabinet Ministers preferring anonymity said that the government was happy to learn that most of the offices were opened and the employees joined back their duties. "We are confident that the attendance will improve significantly in coming days," he claimed.
He further said that the government has written to all the HOD's to ensure presence of employees in government offices.
The minister also said that every effort is being made to ensure that peace should prevail in the valley.
"We appeal to all sections of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to cooperate with the State Government and ensure that peace should prevail," the minister added.
Sources said that almost all the PDP-BJP ministers were present in the civil secretariat on Tuesday after CM directed them to play their role in restoration of normalcy in the region.
It is to mention here that the government had directed employees to report to their duties immediately.
One of the cabinet ministers had told Early Times on Sunday that the directions have been passed to employees to ensure their immediate presence in their respective offices.
Hundreds of the government offices in Srinagar city and the other parts of the valley were locked since the tension erupted in the valley.
Sources had said that the officials from Jammu have not reported for duties in Srinagar after Eid.
Meanwhile the employees have again complained inconvenience to reach their offices without any proper transport facility. "There was no transport service available. It is impossible for an employee to walk on foot amid restrictions to reach office, Shabir Ahmad working in PDD said.
