Medical shop owners afraid of opening shops
Valley faces shortage of drugs, essentials

SRINAGAR, July 19: Persistent curfew and restrictions have caused pressing shortage of essential commodities in the valley including food and medicines. Eventhough medical shops are allowed to open even during curfew, the owners are afraid of opening their shops fearing attack on them by the locals.
"Except some life saving drugs, most the medicines are available with me, but how can I open my shop when there is stone pelting going on here," a medical shop owner said.
Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Pattan said the doctors at the G B Panth hospital Sonawar on Saturday evening asked him to procure some medicines from the market which were not available at the hospital. "However, I failed to get the medicines as the medical shops were closed. Few medical shops were open but they told me they were out of stock," said Shafi, whose son has been admitted at the G B Panth Hospital since Thursday.
Meanwhile, Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat statement that all hospitals in Kashmir have adequate stock of essential drugs and all other necessary diagnostic facilitates to deal with any kind of emergency. He said authorities were keeping close watch on the situation and wherever any shortfall is noticed the same is being addressed quickly.
His claims are however contrary to the situation existing on ground.
Abdul Aziz, a resident of Khanyar, who is suffering from chest ailment complained that he searched the medicines but was not able to get the same. "Despite curfew, I went to several places of Old City Srinagar in search of medicines but could not procure the same because all the medical shops were shut," Aziz said. People alleged that they were facing shortage of essential commodities due to stone pelting going in their areas.
They said protestors are not allowing medical shops to open and not allowing people to move out of their homes to procure essential commodities.
