Mr Azad, it's not Azad Kashmir, it's POJK | A blunder! | | Early Times Report jammu, July 19: Pakistan annexed our Indian territories in 1947-1948 after rape, murder, loot and plunder and the Congress Prime Minister Nehru at the behest of NC president Sheikh Abdullah allowed Pakistan to retain control over these J&K territories by enforcing ceasefire at a time when our Army had the Pakistani invaders on their run. Ever since then, we the Indians have been terming these areas as Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan has been terming PoJK as "Azad Kashmir", which it is not as the people there, all non-Kashmiri, do not enjoy any freedom. People in POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan have been demanding azadi from Pakistan, saying their counterparts in India enjoy absolute freedom and rights. However, Kashmiri separatists, like Pakistan, used to call POJK as Azad Kashmir and the Kashmiri commentators always termed POJK as Pakistan-administered Kashmir notwithstanding the fact that most of the area of the POJK belonged to Jammu province as, for example, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimber, Bagh and so on. But one can understand why Kashmiri separatists would call POJK Azad Kashmiri and Kashmiri commentators would call it Pakistan-administered Kashmir. They are, it is not a secret, part of the plan that seeks to dismember India by ensuring the merger of this part of J&K with India ignoring the people of Jammu, Ladakh and internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus. However, on Monday, Congress leader, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad surprised the whole country by terming POJK as Azad Kashmir. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the debate on Kashmir situation in the Rajya Sabha, Azad termed POJK as Azad Kashmir and sections of media lost no time to highlight the blunder Azad committed on the floor of the Rajya Sabha. They trained guns at Azad and showed him the mirror by reminding him that POJK was not Azad Kashmir and that it was an integral part of India. The Parliamentary resolutions also term this area as POJK and provide for their reintegration into this part of J&K state. By terming POJK as Azad Kashmir, Azad not only helped the Pakistan, may be inadvertently, but also outraged all those who migrated to Jammu in 1947-1948 to save their lives, dignity, culture and religion. They have taken note of what Azad said in the Rajya Sabha and they have all criticized him for right reasons. They have described his statement as a "blunder". Azad would do well to withdraw his statement to assuage the hurt feelings of refugees from POJK. Such a withdrawal of the statement would be in the interest of the nation as well as in the interest of the Congress party whose support-base is basically confined to certain areas of Jammu province. |
