Jakheni residents protest water scarcity, unscheduled power cuts | | | Early Times Report udhampur, July 19: Irked over frequent prolonged power cuts and water scarcity, residents of various localities in Jakheni of Udhampur staged demonstration against PWD and PDD Department due to problem being faced by the residents. Protestors held protest against PDD and PWD and district administration for their failure to provide basic necessities to people of the area which include poor road connectivity and prolonged power cuts. Women and children of area also participated in this protest. During the protest the people also raised the demand of construction of much delayed ST Mohla Lanes besides highlighting other long pending demands of low voltage power supply in the area. One of the protestors, Peer Guljar Shah said that people of area are being deprived from all development since independence apart from the fact that new four lane national highway is passing from the area. He said the our repeated requests about additional transformer in the area has fell to deaf ears. Protestors raising slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD) and the Public Works Department (PWD) alleged that the authorities have failed to solve their problems, forcing them to come on roads. In the end residents threatened to block the national highway if their demands were not met at earliest. Among prominent present in this protest were Mohamed Yaqub, Bansi Lal, Pritam Chand, Rajesh Kumar, Mohamed Yousaf, Mohd Shbir Shah and Multan Ahmed. |
