Government for dilution of scheduled tribe status | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 31: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC organizations J&K unit has condemned the manner in which the incumbent state government is bent upon deliberately diluting the Scheduled Tribe status granted under the Constitution. Expressing displeasure over the issue, Kalsotra, its president said that tribals are already reeling under distress and whatever minimum this community has got it was only because of the reservation granted to them but like the successive earlier governments, this government has also proceeded a step further by attempting to include allied categories to provide them benefits of tribals though these categories have never experienced the ignominies that the tribals have faced over the centuries. The action of the government has led to deprivation on a huge scale thereby impeding all round development of these communities. The government has already failed to defend reservation in promotions and to add insult to injury, this step to dilute the ST status has been taken. Kalsotra further said that the Confederation will apprise the people and the National President on the issue. He further said that in the coming session the Confederation has decided to hold a massive protest demonstration on the opening day of winter session and for this purpose he called upon the care and the entire deprived categories especially SC/ST/OBC's to unite on the issue. |
