Gen Bakshi asks Delhi to raise costs for Pakistan | Delhi seminar | | Delhi Early Times Report JAMMU, July 31; The RSS-sponsored symposium in Delhi on "Peace, People and Possibilities in Kashmir" on the second and final day witnessed Maj Gen (Retd) GD Bakshi disapproving the New Delhi's Pakistan policy as well as Kashmir policy. He said the manner in which New Delhi was tackling Pakistan was not an effective and stated that unless and until India raised cost for Pakistan, things in Kashmir would not change and the nation would continue to suffer as before. General Bakshi, while suggesting that India needed to take far more stringent action against Pakistan, said: "Until you (the Modi Government) raise costs for Pakistan, nothing will happen. You will have to go beyond border and investigate. We have hope that the government will do something…In Kashmir, Pakistan interference will have to stop. They better return PoJK. We will not hand over Kashmir, ever". "Have we not tried to talk? PM Modi tried so many times to talk, he also tried at Ufa…What happened? What reply we got? Udhampur, Pathankot attacks were the reply," General Bakshi further said while suggesting that India needed to take far more stringent action against Pakistan. Another former General, Lt Gen PN Hoon attacked Article 35A of the Indian Constitution and said unless and until this Article was scrapped, economic health of the state will not improve. "Governance there in Kashmir is poor today. Thrown out Kashmiri Pandits. Where are we heading? A large number of people from Kashmir have been thrown out and forced to go to Jammu. We have to economically boost the state. But Indian Constitution Art 35 A does not allow outsiders to buy land. Business people are being stopped from setting up factories there. Build up whole area in terms of trade so Kashmiris prosper and put factories there," Lieutenant General PN Hoon was quoted as saying. "Until people from outside Kashmir were allowed to set up factories and businesses, the local economy would not get a boost," he also said. As for RSS ideologue Indresh Kumar, he, inter-alia, said: "Pakistan is encouraging terrorism and separatists in Kashmir, it will end. He was sure that peace would return to Kashmir. Kashmir will move towards peace and development. Now the slogan is all Kashmiris are of Hindustan and all Hindustanis are with the Kashmiri people. I think from this slogan, the Tiranga will fly in Kashmir and from there come to Hindustan". The symposium was sponsored by the Vishwagram of which RSS ideologue Indresh Kumar is the chief patron. J& K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Education Minister Naeem Akhter were also to participate in the symposium, but couldn't because of the prevailing situation in Kashmir. Tw BJP ministers Lal Singh and Abdul Gani Kohli did participate. Now that the former Generals have asked the Modi Government to raise costs for Pakistan and suggested that things will remain the same in Kashmir unless Article 35 A was abrogated, it will be seen if their suggestions are appreciated and given an effect to. |
